Dark Pinup: Act One has entered the hands of collectors on the WAX blockchain! Fans rushed to experience FACINGS’ all new pack buying experience, with Collector’s Boxes sold out within only 9 minutes. The FACINGS team is invigorated by the reception that Dark Pinup has received from the WAX community so far, raising over 350,000 WAX in secondary market sales for the esteemed artist behind Dark Pinup, Lars Kommienezuspadt. A full plate of planned improvements, rewards, and updates are coming in June for the collection — read on to learn more.
Thank You
The FACINGS team has had some time to reflect on the launch of Dark Pinup as is extremely grateful for the passionate community that stuck with Dark Pinup during the initial launch delays. This was the first time that the pack opening process was used in the wild and engineering had to do thorough testing to ensure it was going to work as planned. The initial launch was delayed by 6 hours after discovering a display issue with the order in which cards transferred from the pack opener appeared in the user inventory. This would have negatively impacted the user experience and it was important to address it before launch. The engineering team was able to deploy a solution quickly and the end result was a smooth and fair distribution, as designed.
The new pack opener is a one click system and the logic involved was custom built to be fair, and to ensure the scarcity we intended, while also being fun to experience. Felblob, Product Manager at FACINGS, recorded a video of the new pack purchase and opening — the entire process takes under 30 seconds from purchasing a pack to viewing your art NFTs on the Pack Rips page!
Promo Flyers
Promotional Burnt Flyers were handed out to over 16,000 fans who subscribed to our mailing list at Darkpinup.com! These flyers celebrate the successful launch of Act One and include early cuts of some of the amazing photos in the series. While it certainly is not the most scarce NFT in the set, the Burnt Flyer is one of its most unique trophies. Look for more trophies like this from FACINGS in the future and don’t burn your Burnt Flyer, yet.
Community Support
FACINGS is committed to providing continued support for Dark Pinup and working with the ecosystem as a whole to make Dark Pinup, and all of FACINGS’ future products at home on WAX. Some efforts will be smaller, such as getting Dark Pinup added to the official collections list on AtomicHub, or getting the number of opened packs displaying properly, while others are much larger, and exciting.
Community events, new art, and new features are all planned for Act One, and beyond! With the growing fan base of over 400+ on Telegram and 700+strong on Twitter, we are looking forward to a bright, or maybe dimly lit, and long-lasting future for the collection.
The Ember Burn Event
Now announcing Dark Pinup’s first community gamification event: The Ember Burn!
Throw some photos on the burnpile and make a sacrifice, or keep them safe in your clasp? The decision is yours.
Starting on June 1st 2021 at 00:00:01 UTC and lasting until the end of the month, June 30th 2021 23:59:59 UTC, collectors can burn photos, wrappers, and flyers from the Dark Pinup set to earn special Ember Packs. Everything burned will earn you favor towards Ember Packs that you can redeem after the event.
Ember Packs contain unrevealed Dark Pinup variations from Act One that are sure to spark your interest and give a new tint to your collection. Stock up while supplies last on the buy page, but remember NOT TO BURN ANYTHING until the event starts on June 1st! There will be no points rewarded for items burned between now and the beginning of the event. More details about the Ember Burn event will be coming soon.
Sale Update
Less than half of the Full Packs remain in stock and more than 350,000 WAX has been exchanged in the secondary markets, with total sales reaching over $160,000! Plus, 61% of Collector’s Boxes and 32% of all Full Packs have already been opened by collectors.
Set Collection Rewards
Dark Pinup is a scarce set, and we want to reward collectors who go through the effort of acquiring every piece of art. That is why the team is carefully designing set rewards for Dark Pinup, which we will unveil following the June Ember Burn event. We will not be requiring collector’s to have the special memento to complete the entire set for these rewards, but we will be ensuring that collectors who enjoy one rarity, or all the rarities, will both be rewarded.
Pack Wrappers
The launch of Dark Pinup was a surprise to most of the community. FACINGS wanted the product to speak for itself, keeping many of the finer details of the set tucked away as secrets for collectors to discover.
One new feature in Dark Pinup, pack wrappers, was a bit too much of a mystery and caused confusion. When you open a pack built with FACINGS, the pack NFT is transformed and returned to you in a wrapper form. In the Dark Pinup collection, this means that you receive either a Burnt Full Pack or a Burnt Collector’s Box back as a wrapper. The image, name, and metadata of the NFT changes, but the same pack you ripped open stays with you. In this way users get to keep a record of which packs they have opened, since the pack wrapper is linked to your opened pack or box.
Unfortunately, the name of the wrappers was too similar to unopened packs and boxes, which in combination with an initial lack of proper filters on secondary markets, caused empty pack wrappers to display next to unopened packs. Pack wrappers are designed with a special type field of “Wrapper”, allowing secondary markets to adjust to the new mechanic.
The filters on all secondary markets have been corrected so that Burnt Full Packs and Collector’s Boxes are separated into their own categories. As an additional measure, FACINGS opened a poll to our Telegram community asking what the pack wrappers should be renamed as. The top two choices were “(EMPTY) Burnt Full Pack” and “Burnt Full Pack Wrapper (EMPTY).” The team opted for a combo of the two — renaming all existing pack wrappers to “(EMPTY) Burnt Full Pack Wrapper” and “(EMPTY) Burnt Full Collector’s Box”. Bit of a mouthful, but hopefully one that avoids collector confusion! In future releases improvements will be made to how pack wrappers are presented.
Surprises Await
Another one of Dark Pinup’s secrets has been given far less attention, and offers far more of a reward for your time — Special Mementos. Only 25 of these highly scarce mementos will ever exist, and they unlock something of immense significance — a signed, physical copy of the Dark Pinup book by Lars Kommienezuspadt! Details on how to trade in your Special Memento will be shared upon completion of The Ember Burn event.
Dark Pinup Website
The Dark Pinup site will see continuous improvements beginning with adjustments to the way sales information is displayed. Soon you will be able to see the price of packs in both fiat and WAX as well as see the amount of remaining packs for sale. Improvements to the messaging that users see when they encounter an error during the purchasing flow is on the way. The UX team is also working on making the pack opening process even more seamless and engaging.
AMA
Lars Kommienezuspad and members of the FACINGS team will be doing a live AMA in the FACINGS Telegram channel this Sunday, May 30th, at 10am PST / 1pm EST. Please join us for a casual discussion on the Dark Pinup: Act One collection! Post your best questions in our Telegram before this Sunday — one lucky participant will earn themselves a free pack!
More To Come
This is just the beginning for Dark Pinup & FACINGS. Stay toasty for the Ember Burn event in June where you can earn exclusive packs of unreleased variations from Act One. The next update to the pack opening system will allow Dark Pinup enthusiasts to open packs directly from their inventory by burning them, in turn automatically destroying the wrapper. And shortly after that will come Pack Mining, a novel new way to earn NFTs. Until next time!
